Darkness. Some like it. Some don't. Some are scared to death of it. I'm one of those people.

I thought I had gotten over this fear, but, it's sorta merged with my "being alone and paranoid" fear. For some reason, I imagine the creepiest things in the dark involuntarily. So, I either have a night-light or my TV on in my room when it's time for bed.

The light is kinda annoying, but I can't pure darkness.

What about you guys? What do you think of the dark?

Haha, I'm really scared of the dark. Or, more specifically, what's in it.

Even if I know that it's incredibly unlikely for something to be with me as soon as I put the lights out in an empty room, I still think it's possible. However, this fear is typically only with me when I'm alone. When with friends or family, I can be totally fine in the darkness. For instance, at a friends party a while ago we played manhunt in the woods she lives next to. It was about 10-11 at night. In a group of people I was fine. As soon as we seperated I became terribly paranoid. I picked up the first big, club-like stick I could see and tried to vey quietly find my way back to the house lol. Which I did, of course, without any monsters or anything getting me haha.

Well, not yet anyway. ;)

Call me a safe bet, I'm betting I'm not
I'm glad that you can forgive, only hoping as time goes, you can forget

I would feel the exact same way. Of course, this is why I don't go outside at 10 PM. It's too scary.

That...and my parents won't let me. But it's still scary out there, all by yourself...

I had to walk home in the dark once from at least half a mile away. I was only 8 or 9 years old. I braved it though. I have to rush to my bed as fast as I can when I turn out the light lol. As if getting into my bed would make any difference if anything wanted to get me. :P I also get the feeling something's behind me all the time when it's dark. Stupid ancient and obsolete instictive capabilites.

I had to do that a couple of times last year. Scared the crap out of me, but I braved through. Luckily it was only like, three times.

Hmm. I don't have to do that. Usually, my TV is on. So, I'm fine there.

And I have the same feeling. Noticing a pattern here with people. I wonder if that sort of thing is common? Or, it's just a coincidence that three people have the same phobia.

It's a natural instinct that goes back milllions of years. Because we can't see in the dark we have to be extra careful that we don't get eaten or fall down a hill. So it's possible that our senses go into overdrive in the dark to make up for the lack of vision. This could explain why even the quietest sounds seem louder in the dark.

Perhaps that's an explanation. I wouldn't be surprised if one was scared of the dark in like, a dangerous area, but I can't comprehend why one would be scared walking home. I can't understand it myself...

Nor can I understand why some people love the dark.

Yo

Until I could drive I had to jog back from work, and it quite a while and I would often finish late. At first I pretty much hated it, now I don't really mind it.

My parents probably wouldn't let me do that. I think they would be too concerned. It's why I plan on working at Target, where my mother works part-time. She can drive me home. And it's pretty close, too.

I know that feeling, My Father used to take me to a Bar/Casino. Once in those nights i took a walk outside, Later when i came back to the Casino/Bar i walked to my Dad´s table unable to find him, I ran out thaught he walked to his car the Parking Lot was empty the Moon was shiney and nobody was there, I knocked on my Fathers car window thaught he would be inside, Secondes later a Hand touched my Back, I started screaming, once i realeased that my Dad was the one touching my back, I actualy chilled down happy that he is back, We drove home i hopped into my Bed, Normaly i use to sleep with nightlight cause i was afraid of the Darkness... but i had a feeling even though its dark it dosen´t mean its evil. Since this day i never slept with a Night Light again. ^^, This is not made up Story its true.

Sounds scary, but that also sounds as if you got over your fear of darkness...if I read that right.

Indeed, It sounds scary, But sometimes you need some of those life moments to really overcome your fear.

Guess so. I might have one of those kind of moments to get over my fears. 'Cause I certainly don't want to take on them on blindly / of my own will.
